Home builders and remodelers are giving back to their communities in creative ways that go beyond simply writing a check: donating man-hours, mentoring, building playhouses for sick children or ramps for people in wheelchairs.

Alaskans who are ill, frail or injured may need a wheelchair ramp or other changes to their home to maintain their independence.
If they are eligible for one of Alaska's Medicaid waivers, the state “environmental modification,” or E-Mod, program may help pay for accessibility construction projects:
